The Antidote is a party.
The Antidote is a collective group of DJs / digital musicians / producers.
The Antidote is based in Shanghai, China.
We host a popular monthly music event in Shanghai (C's bar, free entry, last Thursday of every month) and another monthly with Live Electronic music. We also have regular monthly parties in several cities around China.
In early 2005, American DJ/promoter Michael "Ozone" and Shanghai-native designer/producer B6 started a little monthly party called "The Antidote" at C's, a dirty dive bar in Shanghai. The Antidote brought a refreshing, DIY, renegade style party that blew open the Shanghai music and party scene. Since then, the crew has played around greater China, and has been featured in countless magazines, TV, radio, newspapers, and websites around the world, including BBC, Time Magazine, NPR Radio, and New York Times. The Antidote posters, designed by B6, are currently on exhibit at the Victoria Albert Museum in London. The Antidote crew now have two packed parties every month in Shanghai, plus several other cities around China, and play exciting and innovative new music that rocks dance floors and opens hearts and minds.
2005年初，来自美国的DJ/派对推广人Michael "Ozone" 和上海本土的设计师/制作人B6开始在上海进行每月一次的小型Party，地点选在徐家汇附近一个由防空洞改造的地下酒吧C’s Bar。 Party的名字叫"Antidote"，原意为解毒剂。 如同其名，Antidote以新鲜、独立而反叛的音乐风格，为上海的Party氛围带来了强力一剂。此后，Antidote的成员在中国各地演出， 并赢得了全世界各种报刊杂志、电视、网络等媒体的争相报道， 包括国际主流媒体BBC和纽约时报。 而由B6设计的Antidote海报也正在英国的维多利亚艾伯特博物馆展出。目前，Antidote每月在上海举办两场火爆的Party活动，让刺激新颖的音乐引燃舞池，让渴望音乐的灵魂沸腾。
We produce and play music that is very eclectic, but you might categorize it under electronic, electro, electroclash, IDM, punk, indie, innovative, breakcore, techno, synthpop, abstract hip hop, ambient, minimal, 8 bit chiptune, bhangra, ghetto, and everything else.
We do several parties monthly in Shanghai, and other cities in mainland and greater China. We are a collective group of producers, live electronics, and DJs. We book special guests to come play with us, and we also book out our resident DJs for other events. We also tour as a collective group.
Music? A mad eclectic variety of mostly electronic music, from minimal to electro-punk to bhangra to drum and bass. But we don't do commercial-mainstream music. No lounge house generic hip hop, etc.
Mission? We mostly focus on local talents (China), and the rest of Asia. But we often have international guests that fit our music style (the dirtier the better), especially if they happen to be in the region already (because we're cheap).

We started in the summer of 2005 as a reaction to the prevailing norms in modern Shanghai's nightlife and music scene. Thus the name "Antidote."
Most live music and DJ club events in Shanghai are outrageously priced (or at least the drinks are), especially by local standards. Most Chinese young adults cannot afford to go out and experience a dance club or see live electronic music. And there are few choices available that are not big-club, mainstream house and hip hop, usually only with token *foreign* DJs and often mostly foreigners attending.
So, most Antidote parties are FREE to enter, and the drinks are cheap. And you're not required to wear a suit or reserve a table. (For some special events, we need to have a small door charge to pay for expenses).
Our current regular monthly venue is C's Bar. We love the atmosphere here. They were nice enough to let us come in on a weeknight and play our crazy weird music. God bless them. Antidote #1 had over 300 people pack the small bar. We played indie rock, punk, IDM, breakcore, left-field techno, trip hop, synthpop, and electro, all mixed with our own productions.
Most of our music is played using laptop computers and peripherals -- effects instruments, mixing consoles, and even home-made instruments. Some of our music is original and live, some is DJ-mixed with various software. We are DJs, and we are also recording artists. So we might be mixing in a song by our favorite artist, with something we've created at home in the bedroom or studio, or just live on the spot.

Original Line-Up...
We started out having informal meetings in Ozone's living room, with a purpose of sharing music that we liked, giving each other music history lessons, playing demos we were working on, and drinking beer. In 2005 we decided to make it a public event, and years later it's still going strong.
Ozone - From San Francisco, living in Shanghai since 2003. Former radio and club DJ in California; worked in various roles in the music industry since 1987. The name "Antidote" came from Ozone's college radio show many years ago.
B6 - From Shanghai, China. B6 is an electronic musician and graphic designer. He's recorded a variety of music styles under several names. He founded the "Isolation" record label -- designing, producing, and releasing CDs for Chinese underground musicians. B6 frequently plays live digital or DJs at nightclubs and special events.
He has a new synth-pop band called IGO, and is a co-founder of Neocha.com

MHP - From Shanghai, China. MHP is an electronic music producer, movie sound engineer, commerical music producer and stage designer. In 2000, he produced several electronica albums, including AITAR (with B6), AITAR2, and THE SOUND OF SILENCE PROJECT. His early career involved experimental electronica, and the recordings were freely distributed. In 2004, his interests turned to producing techno music and being a techno DJ.

Emcore - From Gansu, China. Emcore records ambient and abstract hip hop in his home studio. When DJing, he plays an eclectic mix from trip hop to left-field house breaks. He was formerly an editor for a popular culture magazine in China.
AMNJK - From Japan, now living in China. Amnjk was born and found underneath a bridge. Influenced by hip hop at an early age, he now records music best described as "hiphop punktronica." Independent music label 19-t gave him a crappy studio but he ended up recording some wicked tunes. His dream is to open an izakaya bar in Tokyo.
